MTC Life

Megan seems to have adjusted well to MTC life. To my delight, she has reported that she is now learning to take "super fast" showers in order to stick to the strict schedule that they have for them. Her favorite thing to do on P-Days and during "gym time" is to play volleyball with her district. She has also gone jogging and played basketball as well. Since Megan was in the MTC over the 4th of July, they let all the missionaries "break curfew" and go out to a large grassy area to view the fireworks from the Stadium of Fire. The fireworks didn't get started until around 11:30 and I was REALLY surprised to hear that Megan decided to leave early and get to bed. That is so unlike her - the tight schedule has definitely changed her! She had been really looking forward to going to the Provo Temple while at the MTC but it was sadly closed the entire time she was there and so she took pictures instead.

Megan has seen quite a few of her friends and neighbors from high school in the MTC and has enjoyed a quick picture or chat with them. She also loved running into Stephanie Neilson and her husband after one of her classes. Stephanie and her husband both survived a plane crash in 2008 but were badly burned. Stephanie wrote an inspirational book about her struggles and triumphs throughout her recovery. Megan remembered me reading and talking about the book and was so excited to tell Stephanie how much I enjoyed reading about her story.

Megan's afternoon class is definitely her favorite - mostly because of her teacher, Sister Bowen. She has grown so much spiritually since just being in the MTC and so much of that growth can be attributed to the amazing teachers and guests that talk to them. She was able to go to a devotional by Jenny Oaks Baker. Jenny is an amazing LDS violinist who has performed in concerts throughout the world. In fact, Jenna and I just went to one of her concerts in St. George a few months ago. She also mentioned watching a movie called, Character of Christ. She said that it "pretty much changed my entire perspective about a mission".

Megan has had so many spiritual experiences and has felt the Spirit so strongly. Mike asked her what impressed her most about the MTC and she said, "how much I have learned about teaching and growing spiritually. I seriously cannot tell you over email what it feels like." She loves her companion as well as the sisters in the district and zone that she is in. There are eight sisters in her zone and they are all going to Pittsburgh the same day as Megan. She says that she can't wait to serve with them in Pennsylvania.
