Eating Grandma's Cafe Rio!

Elder and Sister Butler (aka Grandma Pat and Grandpa Jim) visited Megan in Butler for P-Day on August 17th. Megan enjoyed showing them around her apartment and the town of Butler. Grandma described Megan's living conditions as as "barely okay". Grandma spoiled Megan and Sister Sears by bringing them some homemade Cafe Rio leftovers to stock their fridge. They REALLY appreciated it! Megan is so extremely lucky to have Grandma's cooking "home delivered" to her on her mission.

One of our first stops was a Lutheran church where the girls volunteer each week. The churches in town all volunteer one day a week to feed the homeless. The Lutheran church calls their dinner night "Katie's Kitchen". It seems that a few years ago some elders were walking by the Lutheran church and saw a line of homeless people outside waiting for food. They went inside and asked if they could help and that started the tradition of the Mormon elders or sisters helping each week ever since. Megan said their night at "Katie's" is one of her favorite parts of the week.

The church secretary knew Sister Sears and Welch well and was delighted to show us the sanctuary of worship as well as other areas in the church --- especially where they serve dinner to the homeless each week. It was a beautiful building and we had a great visit with her. 

Their next stop was to see the town square and a few monuments around town. Grandma and Grandpa then treated the girls to a nice Mexican restaurant. One of the members does a lot of "geo-caching" and so their last adventure was to find a cache that they had told the girls about. It was supposedly hidden in a large yellow railroad car. Finding the railroad car wasn't as tricky as finding the "cache" in a small plastic box that was hidden up underneath the railroad car. Grandma Pat actually gets credit for finding it. All in all, it was a great day for everyone!
