Pittsburgh and the Pirates

Megan's district had been planning on going into Pittsburgh this past Monday to see a Pirates game. They had permission to go and everyone was really excited. Things, however, didn't go as planned and it fell through. Everyone was quite disappointed but Megan and Sister Sears didn't let that stop them. Even though Grandma Pat and Grandpa Jim were out of town, they still decided to go to Pittsburgh on there own to just "explore". They are gutsy girls! They found a bus that was going to Pittsburgh for $7 and had a great time walking around the city. 

Now comes one of the perks of having your grandparents serving in the same mission. Megan made a phone call to Grandma and Grandpa begging them to go down to the Pirates stadium and get some tickets for another game. My mom and dad had heard that all the games were sold out except for single tickets but they decided to try anyway - what you won't do for the love of a granddaughter!

This is when all the stars seemed to align just right. The ticket agent was shocked when he looked at his screen and saw that there were, in fact, four seats together for Saturday's 4:00 game. It was the perfect day and time when both Megan and my parents could go. Megan and Sister Sears were able to find a ride with a kind hearted Relief Society President in their ward who even bought Megan a Pirates shirt because she didn't have one. It ended up being the perfect day for weather as well - blue sky and no rain. In St. George, blue sky and no rain is pretty normal, but in Pittsburgh that is something to be really grateful for! The seats ended up being wonderful because they were in the shade for most of the game. This was a huge relief to my parents and made the game more enjoyable for everyone. Grandma and Grandpa were so nice to treat the girls to a hot dog, nachos and frozen lemonades for dinner. It was so fun to get all the pictures from my mom throughout the game. However, it was also REALLY hard because I knew that Megan was sitting right next to her Grandma and I just wanted Megan to grab Grandma's phone and talk to me - I would just LOVE to hear her voice! Darn those missionary rules!!! The Pirates ended up winning 6-5 in a nail biter against the Dodgers. What a fun and wonderful day.

Megan has also been fortunate lately to have a lot of members invite them over for meals. She said that it has been VERY appreciated and has broken up the monotony of eating the same thing every day. She has also loved playing basketball and volleyball with some of the members. Megan said that Sister Sears is a fantastic volleyball player and they have a lot of fun together.

Hmmm . . . how are you supposed to knock on this door?

Megan has not only been playing hard, but she has been working hard as well. They still are helping families move and have their weekly visits to help feed the homeless as well as working on another day where they help hand out produce through a program called Produce to People. They have been teaching quite a few investigators and are hoping that the three baptisms they have planned for this month stay on track. However, things don't always go as planned. On one of those days that things "didn't go as planned", they ended up having all of their teaching appointments cancel and were pretty sad because they had an open schedule for the day. They decided that they would just walk around the city and talk to people. This ended up being quite a good idea because by the end of the day they ended up getting 11 new investigators to teach - what a blessing in disguise!
